I cannot see why putting the AN-J's close to the wall would have much direct effect on high frequencies but it will reinforce the bass and this may make high frequencies sound weak in comparison. I suspect that it may also affect the balance of the bass, producing a boomy effect. Will your AN Dealer let you borrow a pair of AN-K's with the matching AN stands so that you can try them out in your room?. My experience is that very heavy and rigid stands are essential to get the best out of the speakers.
The NHT Super-Ones could be a much cheaper and more compact option. Ive not heard them but I understand that they are a larger version of the Super Zero and are more suitable than the Super-Zero's for use without a sub. I would not expect them to sound as good as well placed AN-K's but I would expect them to sound decent and they might fit in better.

David
