Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

I wish it was true

The Skylans look fine and cost a lot less but what you are saying is just not what I heard when I compared the two.

I listened to the AN K's B&W 805's and Snell K's on two post Skylans and on AN stands.

The Skylans were OK until you listened to the speakers on the AN stands.

On the AN stands not only was the bass much clearer and extended but the whole range was cleaner.

My guess is that its the greater rigidity (you could feel this when you pushed on the speaker) due to different materials and different stand geometry.

I also checked for ringing. It did not seem to be an issue with either stand. The heavy steel in the AN stand seemed to be very well damped by the fill. (a "thunk" as posted below)

I would expect and have been told that results would be the same with the other stand sizes but have not heard it for myself.

I would listen carefully to the two before concluding that they are close to equivalent. I guess that it is possible, depending on the music, that you may not initially notice much difference but once you do, I would expect that you will find a big difference in bass, clarity and soundstage.
