Re: Snell JIII fix or upgrade questions

I would replace the foam.

I just had the foam replaced in my Snell E II speakers and they sound fantastic. I got a tech who does it all the time to do it for me as I value the speakers too much to use them to learn the process on, and I was too busy with work to want to put in the time.

I expect that you could find an expert in your area who will do it for you for less than $100.
If you do this yourself, it is possible to buy new foam for both speakers for less than $10 or a kit with foam, glue and gaskets for less than $30.

It seemed much better to me to keep the speakers as close to original as possible and just replace the foam rather than replace the drivers and their matching inductors which is a lot more expensive, would take longer, and would involve a similar amount of work

I have never heard Snell J III speakers but I have E IIs and also really like the AudioNote AN J speakers that were I believe derived fron the Snell J II. Assuming that the E III is somewhat similar, it will be a pretty good speaker and likely an exceptional one.
