General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

IME

IME pink noise does not help in breaking them in, you need really loud music. A loudness switch or equalizer helps speed up the woofer break-in (I used a Thiel sub-bass equalizer).

IME the break-in happens in three distinct phases:

Fist phase: woofer loosens up and starts to sound rubbery, Overall sound quite dull; use bass-heavy music;

Second phase: tweeter partially breaks-in (before the midrange units):
you will hear lots of bass and treble, very little midrange. Bass sounds slightly more defined due to tweeter leading edge contribution.That's around 100-150 hours;

Third phase: the midrange drivers start to break-in and "fill-in" the sonic picture. One starts to notice an amazing soudstage, still a little too much treble, a slightly laid-back midrange. Do not quit, you are almost there.
When the midrange drivers REALLY open up, play a good piano recording, it should sound well balanced across the keyboard. At this point,around 200 hours, the speakers are quite listenable.
The final touch: the midrange drivers fill-in the upper bass and you will be AMAZED at the bass quality and power of these puppies.

Phase three can be done listening to music, any solo acoustic guitar or acoustic piano recording will do, without breaking the lease. I enjoyed 50 hours of Baden Powel and Horowitz concerts, Bingo, midrange magic!
Good luck
