I'm in speaker hell...done Tannoys, Altecs, Quads,...where to go next?

I've got a problem. It's a serious problem. No speakers sound good to me. I'm using a mixture of vintage and modern tube gear and I can't seem to find a pair of speakers I like. The other issue is that I'm spoiled by some of the things I have now. For example, the dynamics, imaging, incredible balance and focus of the classic Tannoy Monitor Gold is something I can't live without....but I find the highs/uppermids to be extremely irritating. I tried Altec Valencias....again, brutal fatigue...but nothing does a drum kit like the Valencias. Never met a JBL I've liked and I don't think the Altec sound works for me either. Horns seem to be harsh. Tried Klipsch Heresys....absolutely HATED them. I tried some multi-driver designs...but they don't sound right to me. There is a confusion that I hear in non-coaxial systems that I can't stand after living with the Tannoy. That brings us to the Quad 57. These sound absolutely gorgeous. They are non-fatiguing(so far), they have the imaging, balance, and focus of the Tannoys, but they don't have the metallic horn sound that has been bothering me in the Tannoys(crossovers redone and switches bypassed). The problem with the Quads is the bass rattles when you push them...I can't turn these up and rock out....and for that matter, they have very little bass. They don't allow you to feel the vibrations of the music in the room with you. So now I am stuck. I can't listen to a three way or overly complex system because it doesn't sound right. I'm not interested in ANYTHING with a whizzer cone due to whizzer shout. I want the slam of the giant Altecs with the smooth, magic midrange of the Quad 57s. Modern speakers don't work because I can't deal with not having the weight, size, and dynamics of a larger system. Anything smaller than a 10" driver never sounds right to me. Is it possible that there is a speaker on the planet that I would like? I'm starting to wonder.
