What you describe sure sounds like them so I opened one up and found that it is a 2-way with passive radiator just as you described. The Tweeter has the mesh cover and has the following on the back:
HD 100D 25
B.M. 8-9 OHMS
2007The 8" nom. mid - bass driver had a Monitor Audio sticker that may have been covering some OEM data.
There was also a sticker on the basket saying Nov 1981 so I guess that dates them for me. The cone curves in toward the center and appears to be fibrous with a black textured finish facing out. The driver surround is rubber and is inverted. The passive radiator is also 8" but is a standard cone and its rubber surround is not inverted.
The bass extension impresses me. In my room, they seem to be near flat to 30 Hz and only 3dB down at 25Hz.
Based on what I've heard so far, I rate them quite highly though more treble extension would be nice (at least on good recordings)
