Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Re: Well

Huh? Yes, the truth is most tweeter failers are caused by the voice coil lead out wires which are the same as the voice coil wire. When the tweeter is played at a high level the wire fatigues and breaks. On inspection the voice coil is not burned in any way but has become open due to the lead breaking. The only solution is to use a braided lead out from the voice coil to the speaker terminal as is used on woofers and midrange drivers. Some dome tweeters are made this way and will handle 100 watts long term with this design which will equal about 104 db peak sound pressure level.
