Re: Unnatural bass response of Dynaudio Confidence C4: Is this speaker too big for a room my size ?

Recently I had the privilege to listen to a reference-level system playing a pair of C4s in a large conference room. The room was probably 36'x 25' x 9 ft, well damped. We logged a total of 8 hours of listening to several records over the weekend, from pop to jazz and classical music.
IMO the C4 is an outstanding speaker but it clearly does not have enough pitch definition in the bass region AND has a bump in the frequency response in the upper bass / lower midrange (I would guess 100 to 300 Hz).
The low bass was powerful and impressive but (for example)I could not recognize Gary Peacock's bass "tone" on Keith Jarret's Tokyo '96 CD. It sounded like a generic bass, not like Gary's bass + unique touch, which I have heard live and in several less costly systems.
Otherwise, the C4s are mighty fine speakers, with outstanding midrange, treble decay, air and soundstaging. They can also play pretty loud!
I bet that some well-positioned mid-bass traps would clean up its frequency response and improve pitch definition. Then it would be a contender for the best speaker I have heard.

I hope this helps
