I would not bother with WE91 but "accidentally" acquired a pair of older Sophia Electric 91-05 which are reportedly very nice and use reclaimed WE core lams (??) I don't need another amp but since like most here I have plenty of old oil caps , iron . vit Qs and AB resistors I thought I can make WE300B in Shindo fashion (with 6c6 instead of 310) and Dc filaments. Admittedly Sue from Sophia recommends 420-440 B+ with 1.25k cathode resistor (60-70mA) for their OPT but its a minor issue.
I did a little repair on Sophia's production WE 91 amp with new 91-05 $1.5k
trans and it is nicely balanced and fine sounding amp with a sense of drive. Test 300b tubes were crappy and the amp can't take 300Bxl which are my only good 300Bs so it's as far as I can tell .(nothing to do with original WE91 though with 6SN7 input and EL34 driver tube).
Thanks for all the responses. It's sort of quiet here since winter finally ended and I'm already fed up with the garden :)
