acours, hi again. Interesting. Thanks. I have not kept up (or tried to keep up) with audio publications for at least the last 10 years or so. You know the 300B allows a much higher B+ supply than the 45. Cary must be using a different power transformer for your amps. They use a 5U4 or GZ-37 perhaps? Have you ever measured the + Voltage at the 45 tube anode pin? That would be interesting. The CAD-300SE Sig originally employed fixed bias. I gather later models use Cathode Bias. CB is often called "auto bias" by amp makers because there is no adjustment. The 45 is much happier with a 5K load. I belive Cary specs their CAD-300B output transformers at 3K. Have you had the chance to hear any of the J C Verdier SET amps? They look to be quite good.
