Rob, hi. The output choice was made by auditioning several transformers. The Tango XE-60-5 (30 W SE)won the audition. The 5K primary is what the Type 50 likes as reflected load but it is also excellent with 300B. In this case we are talking about the old Tango company not the current ISO Tango - though I would suppose if the company was reorganized with key original personnel the ISO would be as good. This is not verified by audition. If you are planning on a 50 as final tube something higher than 3.5K would be indicated. Although I gravitate towards the 50 (what a wonderful tube!) the 300B is also superb. You will observe many many Japanese amplifiers are built for 300B using a 5K output. One may lose a bit of power (no big deal) but distortion is lower.
