Naz, hi. You tell it like it is. Ideal RC coupling (sonics) would include a driver plate choke. Still and all to my ears there is something about the presentation one can get with the interstage that transcends RC coupling even with a plate choke. It is difficult to describe but i think has something to do with lack of time domain/frequency smearing. Except for the RU K-40Y which to my ears pulls off a virtually perfect disappearing act an interstage gives a more relaxed presentation but more than that one which has better "balance" across the whole spectrum. The sound is somehow less "electronic" and more musical. In my Type 50 amps I can switch between RC coupling with driver plate choke and interstage coupling. This amp has all old Tango: plate choke, interstage, B+ choke, and outputs. The coupler is Teflon - very transparent. I always gravitate back to the interstage. Naz gives a very clear insightful overview. At some point I would like to try an RU K-40Y in place of the Teflon and do some more comparisons. My Type 45 amp also evolved from RC to IT coupling. In this case I noticed a profound change when adding a transformer to the grid of the first stage for a little more gain in this two stage amp. I was pleased and confounded by this change - again, more spectral balance, the weight of notes more real, the whole texture of presentation more life like, and so on. It is most difficult to convey these thoughts with mere words.
