Single Ended Triodes (SETs), the ultimate tube lovers dream.

RE: Ask for Gerald

nameci, hi. Once upon a time a little company out of North Carolina began producing amps nobody had seen before, or at least for a long time:
push-pull 2A3, 300B, 807, SET 300B, 211, 845 in addition to PP EL34 and 6550. They even came out with a tube output CD player. They also had a little branch of the company (different phone number) that catered to the DIY crowd with kits, parts, etc. The little company was enthusiastic about triode tubes. This was in the early 90's. The company prospered and grew much larger. Now they are big into solid state and Home Theater. Their multi-format DVD player sells like hot cakes for about six grand. A lot of manufacture now happens in Taiwan. The old tube amps were point to point wired in NC. The HT stuff dwarfs sales of 300B signature mono blocks. Gone is the DIY parts business. Heck, they're making so much money now that dealing with those tube guys who call up with pesky questions about umbilical cords to older products is annoying. Jeez, older owners are turning into real pests these days. Maybe if we just over charge the heck out of them and seem confused when they call they'll just go away. What is wrong with this picture?
