steverw, hi. With the advent of Sound Practices and Glass Audio in the 90's the idea of SET became better and more widely known in the USA. Other parts of the world had been delving into the wonders of the low mu triode for decades. The initial reaction to SET by the mainstream audio press in the US and UK was scorn and supercillious dismissal. With the bulk of business driving ahead into "home theater" (what a joke) what would it profit a retailer or manufacturer to even suggest that real musical satisfaction, even happiness, could be found in the arcana of triode tubes? Consider yourself informed. Now, what else has been hidden from view in plain sight that you have been steered away from discovering?
