RE: 2A3 & 300B AC heater vs. DC heater

Al, hi. If you are getting good results with AC heating all I can say is super. I have some amps using AC heating ( Type 50/300B into 5K & Type 45 into 5K ). My 2A3 amp has DC heating on the 2A3 as well as first and second voltage amplifiers (Type 56). The Type 45 amp is super quiet under zero signal conditions - zero hum. Each tube has its own center tapped filament transformer. This amp has no capacitors or resistors in the signal path. My 50/300B amps with AC heating allow nulling to a very high degree but some hum is present though at admittedly vanishingly low levels. What I mean to say is I use both DC and AC heating with excellent results. I am not noticing a clear cut advantage with AC heating. I realize a lot of buiders prefer AC for the evanescent life it breathes into the music, or at least that seems to be the concensus. Have fun and happy listening.
