Single Ended Triodes (SETs), the ultimate tube lovers dream.

Re: WAVAC MD-805 SET vs Cary 805 Anniversary

gopies, hello again. If you have the itch and can afford it I don't think you will have major regrets either way. I would at least wait until your Loftin-White is operational and you've had a while to listen to it. If money is no object and your heart is set on it go ahead and get which ever one you want. I just don't think either one will convey the music as well as an amp using the low mu DHT triodes I mentioned before. The WAVAC is beautifully built no doubt. However a beam power tube driver will impart its flavor to whatever output tube you choose. Shishido's ingenuity was in devising a scheme allowing the use of high mu transmitting triodes as final tubes in an audio amplifier. The CARY is for many people the cat's meow. It has a solid state power supply - silicon diodes and huge electrolytic caps. The power supply is the sound of an amplifier as much so as the choice of tubes.
