Deep Cryogenic Treatment.

Hello fellow lunatics,
This post is primarily aimed at those who manufacture audio transformers or act as transformer suppliers to Joe public.

I've just finished reading yet another cryogenics article, this time in the July issue of HFN. What struck me was that after reading the article DCT seems like a fairly inexpensive way to perhaps improve the sonic properties of wound components. It is the opinion of some transformer winders that materials used in transformer construction have a great influence on their sonic properties and DCT seems to have a considerable effect on materials, metals in paticular. I have carried out searches in various Asylum forums but few referred to any benefits for transformers (Doc.B. being one who actually had a transformer subject to DCT and found it sonically improved) My questions are:

Can a whole transformer be treated with little risk of damage to the magnetic media, or must the coil assembly only be treated?

Are there any risks of damage to insulating materials (apart from cracking if flexed at low temperatures)?

Has anyone actually had their transformers or chokes treated and if so, did it make any sonic difference?

As I said, I would be interested to hear from those who have a considered opinion or direct experience of this technique: in the other forums searched, particularly "General", the subject seems to generate more heat than light (pun intended).

Denis.
