Tony Lauck suggested I pass along some results I got last summer at this point. I'm not sure what these mean, assuming anyone believes them. I took the "six-inch driver playing music-pop" series and made it all the way to -45 dB. There was a bit of a spike in the data there, for whatever reason. I used a pair of Sony MDR-7506 headphones plugged into the output on my little computer speakers.
Historically I have been good at blind tests for this kind of distortion, partly because I spent years listening for distortion and noise modulation in analog tape masters. This is partly what suggested to me that if we found someone who could identify the CD loop in our high-bit comparison, that that person might be able to teach me to hear it as well.
