Tony You're Wasting Your Time Talking With AJinFLA

Tony,

When talking with AJinFLA you're speaking with a being who's mind is set harder than concrete. Either he just likes to argue with everyone or else he believes he knows all the answers already so you cannot possibly hope to show or teach him anything new. AJinFLA is a prime example of the type of person Epictetus was speaking about when he said It is impossible for a man to learn what he thinks he already knows.

I've tried to show AJinFLA why we cannot rely on measurements and specs to always tell us the true story. I then presented AJinFLA with this fact: What mics "hear" isn't what we as humans "hear." Why? The reason this occurs is quite simple. Around 3KHz our hearing as humans is less sensitive to diffuse fields. However recording microphones AREN'T less sensitive to 3KHZ diffuse fields like human's are! So when the recordings made by these mics are played back over loudspeakers, there is actually more energy in the 3KHz region than the person would have perceived if we were present at the recording venue.

Now if a person who hears this recording complains there's too much info in the 3KHz region. What can we do, trust their subjective opinion? Not here on PHP! All we could do is compare the output signal of the mic vs the input signal of the recording! Guess what!!! These measurements will insist this recording is exactly what the mic heard! So is the person's subjective opinion wrong? NO because a mic doesn't hear like human's do. Yet many here on PHP would simply trust the measurements & specs and insist this is just another subjectivist wacko who's fooling themselves!

I've tried to explain this before but, AJinFLA appears incapable or unwilling of grasping this concept... if a mic doesn't hear ---{ and hence output a signal that represents's how humans hear }--- than what it records is NOT an accurate replication of the live acoustic event from a human standpoint! Now I cannot speak for anyone else but, I want a recording that represents what I would have heard if I was standing where that mic was placed. I don't want a machine's interpretation of what I should have heard "IF" I heard like a mic does.
