RE: I read it just fine

Excuse me, but there was no "glaring problem" with the Pioneer. Though we could hear a bit of nonlinearity at *extremely* low levels in one channel, it sounded fine on music at normal levels. If it hadn't we wouldn't have used it. When we did discover the one recording that revealed a problem, we took the Pioneer out of the system because we wanted to do more investigation of these very low-level effects, and it was unsuitable for those.

Its noise level was, contrary to Mr. Atkinson's assertions, generously lower than the CD loop, and subjectively within 2 dB or so of the Sony ES player. It just sounded a bit ragged on one side.

And, of course, I knew that it wasn't expensive enough to avoid the kind of response that has arisen from the usual quarters. I figured a mid-price player (the Yamaha was as I remember about $380 at Best Buy) would have somewhat more credibility. Silly me. -- E. Brad
