RE: A pharmacist's perspective

RW: A belated thanks for the info from the pharmaceutical world. The general principles seem to be applicable everywhere, and any result should be applied with caution to new and possibly different situations.

My amplifier tests were specific to some rather unusual conditions, in particular the odd and unusually difficult load presented by one speaker system. I would expect most speakers to be easier loads, and therefore less amp-sensitive, than that one, but clearly more information is needed about that, and if reviewers are now publishing impedance curves for speakers, that will help the reader figure out how likely a tube amp will be to make an audible difference.

I hoped also, having used an ABX test to settle in the positive direction a question that had been argued for some time, that the power of the test to establish audibility would make itself felt. No luck there. Of course the test is far more powerful and useful in confirming audibility than in trying to prove the opposite, which can never be done with anything like the same certainty. -- E.
