The apparatus to keep the cables cold would constrain the geometries severely.Superconductors still only work at cryogenic temperatures: liquid helium for the older ones, and liquid nitrogen for the so-called "high temperature" ones. There would be lots of applications if someone discovered one that remained superconducting at room temperature, but this has not happened to my knowledge.
