RE: Fmak's comment on "quality"...

"about quality, not rippability. If this were so, where are all these topics about quality ripping and tagging. And how do you know you have the best dsd playback when you just use a plugin of unknown quality standard?

At least I can get dsd directly out of Sony's chip, plus 3 other methods in comparison."

What? So long as you have bit perfect CD ripping, how it plays depends on the final DAC anyways.

In terms of quality differences, I have different rips of a certain title - for example, this is my list of Dark Side of The Moon:

Dark Side Of The Moon (30th Anniv SACD 2003, FLAC) (1973)
Dark Side Of The Moon (CD1 [Remaster] Immersion Box 2011, FLAC) (1973)
Dark Side Of The Moon (CD2 [Live Wembley 1974] Immersion Box 2011, FLAC) (1974)
Dark Side Of The Moon (CD6 [1972 Early Mix & Unreleased] Immersion Box 2011, FLAC) (1972)
Dark Side Of The Moon (Hi-Res 2011 Immersion Blu-Ray to 24/96, FLAC) (1973)
Dark Side Of The Moon (Japanese Harvest / Black Triangle CP35-3017 SOX De-Emph'ed, FLAC) (1973)
Dark Side Of The Moon (MFSL UDCD-517 1989, FLAC) (1973)

When an audiophile buddy comes and wants to compare say the 1989 MoFi version vs. the 2011 Immersion box set hi-res, I can easily select the appropriate one because I took the time to tag them properly. Or to go even further back, there's the Japanese Black Triangle edition first pressing which I processed thru SOX to get rid of pre-emphasis if I want.

IMO, it doesn't get any more convenient than this. It also allows me to focus on what matters even *more than the DAC / digital hardware* - collecting rare masters of my favourite recordings such as the uncompressed first editions.

As for SACD's, well, yeah if I want quality straight from 1-bit, I'm happy to spin the disc on my old Sony ES777. But the 24/88 SACD digital rips sound awesome out of the Transporter as PCM and I can easily live with those if the SACD's got damaged!
