RE: Am I the only one?

Honestly, like most things in audio, there will always be numerous opinions and only you can determine for yourself what's good enough.

IMO - stay inexpensive and get the Touch and if you don't like the sound, get an outboard DAC and tweak to your heart's desire. If the WiFi signal is strong, the sound will be great. I've given up on the esoteric stuff a long time ago - "jitter" is irrelevant if the equipment is decent, USB cables are the same if they transmit error free, don't worry about ethernet cables for slow data transfers like audio, FLAC/WAV sound same on decent computer.

Since you don't like toying with the computer, forget the cmp/cplay stripped down computer stuff - way too much hassle IMO. *Invest* time ripping the CD's accurately and tagging them consistently since this will be the foundation for your future music server no matter what route and upgrade you make over the years.

Since the Touch can do 24/96, start collecting some of this hi-res stuff and play with that too.

I know some of this may seem anathema to certain folks here but my own tests and ears tend to agree with science & engineering principles. Enjoy the music, don't sweat the small stuff. If you get into computer audio, do come back and tell us what you think!
