Yes, I think you're right Tony that there *could* be slight differences.
But these differences would I think best be considered BUGS either in the software getting affected by the WAV header or hardware issues like the hard drive failing to be consistent in performance depending on which sector the file is located.
These issues should not have any bearing on someone's generalized claim that lossless compression affects sound quality (especially the way they seem to be suggesting!). Whether the dude decoded the FLAC 'realtime' during playback or first as a WAV is irrelevant if he thinks E-mailing it makes a difference. No matter how you slice it, there's some strange logic being invoked.
