RE: Clipping on conversion from DSD to PCM

Thanks for the thoughtful reply Tony.

I believe the fixed gain was the issue with some of the hardware DSD to PCM converters. Many of the "early" (like 6 months ago) digital rips from SACD's were through units like the Oppo DV-980H with Mediatek chipset which demonstrated notable clipping. I think even the Sony units that did 24/176 output through HDMI had issues on loud disks.

These days with full ISO rips, it's not a problem anymore. I must say that the 24/88's I've tried sound amazing... I gather the only way to get better sound is via a genuine DSD DAC as fmak talks of above.
