Although I agree with you. The result of perceived sound quality by introducing a word clock might be different.
Word clocks like a Apogee BigBen do not have the same sound effect on all DACs. For example, a BigBen 're-balances' the spectrum of a Rosetta a lot with a perceived increase in sound quality. In fact, jitter is a bit higher and spread throughout.

In absolute terms, audio clocks must be as close as phisically possible to DAC chips.
