The first configuration of my music PC was an Intel motherboard with D45 chipset, a 3.2gHz Core2Duo processor and Windows 7. It worked flawlessly for over a year. I also tried 2 older Pentium 4 computers with Windows XP, one with an Intel 2gHz processor and one with a newer 3.2gHz Pentium 4 dual core with HT. Those worked great, too, with my Prism Firewire DAC.Now, I've tried two different models of Intel boards, DH57DD and DD55TC, both with an i5-650 and i3-540 processors. While the DD55 board is much more stable than the DH57, both have a lot of problems with the 176.4 and 192kHz sampling rates. There is intermittent "digital chatter", a kind of static sound. Latest BIOS, disabled unused services, etc.
Is anyone else using one of the newer i3/i5/i7 processors, and if so, what MB do you have? I have always used Intel boards, but am getting pretty darn discouraged with these new products.
Thanks for your insights.
Regards,
JerryS
