Audio distortion

I have audio distortion during playback and I am not what it depends on Console, but perhaps someone can point me in the right direction.
For multi-ch listening/viewing I am employing a digital XO (Allocator). As this plug-in requires ASIO and all movie players are DirectX, I use this particular configuration in Win XP sp3: DVD player -> VAC -> Console -> Allocator LT (digital XO) -> LynxTwo-B, through the use of ASIO4ALL.

DVD player is set to DirectSound playback, practically all players default.
Windows Audio default is set Virtual Audio Cable, specifically VAC 1.
Asio4All is piping Input to VAC1 and Output to LynxTwo-B 1.
Both Console and Alloc LT are configured for Asio4All.
In Console you connect Wave-In -> Alloc LT x 2 -> Wave-Out.

In this set-up VAC sends WAV to Console.
It seems to me that my only chance to properly control volume is through Windows Mixer Wave channel. Unfortunately, this introduces distortion. It happens after about 10 seconds of playback, almost as if a buffer gets filled up and sound begins crackling. However, if I stop Console and start again, I have a few seconds of clear audio before distortion starts back.

In your view where does the problem lay? Window Mixer? Console? Lynx driver? Anything I can do/try?

Thanks in advance
