Hi,
Unfortunately, JRiver does not have kernel streaming output capability. I was using Foobar at the time which did support kernel streaming. As long as I loaded the Allocator at startup, I had no problem using kernel streaming while the Allocator had control of the ASIO client. The way I had it setup would allow any output driver other than ASIO since Allocator had the ASIO driver.
I had the system setup so that Lynx device 5 was the default windows sound device. So, if I used Direct Sound from any application, it would output on Lynx device 5, or if I used kernel streaming, I would set it to device 5. I had the loopback jumper set on the 2B card, and would take anything from device five and input it into the Lynx recording device 2 via the Lynx mixer. Recording device 2 would be my Allocator input. Then I would have Allocator output to devices 1,2 and 3 respectively, and they were sent to the Lynx outputs.
I have never played with WASAPI, but its possible you might be able to use it for higher quality output from JRiver in this type of setup. It would definitely work using the Direct Sound output, as would any standard DVD player program. When I was watching DVDs, I would be using the standard Direct Sound driver.
I hope this helps,
Alan
