RE: it needs an IP address. Needs to be plugged into a router

If all that is needed is LAN connectivity on a single Ethernet, I wouldn't think that a router would be needed. Any node, such as a NAS, could run a DHCP server, or alternatively, nodes could be configured directly with their IP addresses.

Obviously, running a router that has a built in DHCP server would be an easier setup, but I would be surprised if this were actually required.
