RE: Do the Regen and Jitterbug really correct sound artifacts?

The WBF thread was an asshole laden nightmare. I ceased participating on WBF as a result.

Regarding the measurements, there were some low level spikes on the analog output of one DAC when it was measured in unbalanced mode when used with the REGEN. These did not appear when the same DAC was measured in balanced mode. This indicates something wrong with the DAC, the measurement setup, etc. In any event, these were not at a level such as to be audibly significant.

Without a better understanding of specific mechanisms whereby the REGEN can improve the operation of a DAC (and this depends on internal design of the DAC) it is not clear how to go about measuring these effects. Using a spectrum analysis or other averaging methods will not show transient effects, which may be what people are hearing. Also, the REGEN is supposed to improve the signal quality on a USB cable. This may not be possible if the original source (and cable) already provide excellent signal quality (e.g. eye pattern) at the DAC.

Whether, and how, REGEN and similar devices affect sound quality is not well understood. If it were, DAC manufacturers would already be building in appropriate solutions in their products, making these devices superfluous
