One thing that I just realized is that the synchronizer circuitry that is deciding whether the incoming pulse should be assigned to clock cycle "n" or clock cycle "n+1" might create a lot of noise in addition to taking a long time to make up its mind. Incidentally, the overwhelming majority of digital logic designers still believe that the "glitch" problem associated with synchronizers can actually be solved, i.e. it's a digital problem. But actually, it is not. All of this "digital" circuitry is really analog at its bases. Leslie Lamport wrote another paper that discussed the same issue from the standpoint of quantum mechanics and showed that the existence of discrete quantum states does not change the underlying situation.
