DSD has to be filtered or it looks even worse than the plots. Without more detail on how the plots were constructed (e.g. how the bits were filtered) the plots are meaningless. From reading the CA thread, this information was not available.
It is certainly possible to filter the output of DSD64 so that the noise won't show up at all on a scope plot, while still retaining 20 kHz bandwidth. (This won't give the best sound, but the plots won't look horrible.)
