The metadata issue is an even bigger problem with physical media such as CD or LP. With these media there isn't any metadata at all, so you start from scratch. How is this better than file based systems?
Yes, it's a pain to get metadata the way you want it. Have you ever kept a library index of your record library? Just storing records on the shelf is also hopeless, particularly if have classical music. Do you store by record label, composer, artist? What if there are multiple artists? How do you spell foreign language names that can use special characters, alternate spellings, and different name orders?
