As I recall, the IBM plant near BTC made memory chips, but this was over 20 years ago. The facility was sold to Global Foundries.
Digital Equipment had a chip plant in Hudson, Massachusetts that made CPU chips. I used to go there from time to time for meetings. That facility was sold to Intel soon after I left DEC, along with many chip and processor architecture related patents.
Burlington has a mild climate, due to Lake Champlain. I live in the mountains near a ski area and we get much more interesting weather. I love the cold. Also my condo has an active solar system and it's not unusual to have to wear shorts and T shirts on sunny days, even though the furnace isn't running.
