RE: Internet speed doubles, but no increase in WiFi Speed........

I would try "ping" tests between your laptop and other devices to see if there are packet latency or packet loss problems.

I would also try transferring files locally on your network between computers to see if there might be some kind of interaction between the wi-fi and your ISP. If the problem is with the useful bandwidth of your laptop then you will see a similar limitation for local transfers.

If you care about speed, then your best bet would be to wire in the laptop when you need the speed. If it doesn't come with an RJ45 jack then you can use a USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 to Ethernet adapter. These are under $30. (If I were doing local backups of a laptop I would probably use a wired connection and not use wireless as I've yet to see any wireless that works really well.)
