Today these special boxes are still used, particularly where crypto equipment is involved since extracting a few bits of crypto key can reveal all of the secrets. However, there are also special facilities in spy lairs (embassies) which have heavy shielding of RF, power and comms lines. These are called SCIF.I don't know the details of this as they are all classified. I have never had and never wanted (and would have refused) any kind of security clearance. I have worked with people with these clearances and I can say that it is a huge pain in the ass to have a technical conversation since sometimes they have to roll their eyes and stop talking after I'd figured out one of their "secrets".
