Enjoying music via my new Regen

REGEN arrived this morning, picked up at Post Office. Power supply a lot larger than gismo. Plugged in power cord, plugged power supply to gismo. Unplugged USB cable from PC and connected to In of gismo. Connected OUT of gismo to Mytek using the solid USB adapter. I put a wooden coaster under the REGEN to provide strain relief to US connectors, but it wasn't really necessary. All music formats and modes worked OK without any software changes. Only thing I had to do with the Windows 7 computer was to click "OK" to pop up that said, "Generic USB Hub recognized."

Sound is smoother, with less digital glare. No loss of resolution. I have played a variety of formats. The Channel Classics DSD version of Mahler 9'th was the best sound that I've heard yet out of this system.

However, it's premature to jump to any conclusions. For one thing, I had to rearrange some cabling and power some stuff down to find an outlet for the new power supply. Also, before messing with the cabling in the back of the preamp version of the Mytek, I removed two RCA connecters that went to the sound card in my PC (which I use for monitoring tape transfers). It is possible that this removed some coupling paths for computer noise independent of adding the Regen. I also haven't done any tests to see if there is more noise immunity from software changes in the computer (e.g. real time FLAC vs. WAV).

Enjoying music. Not experimenting today. :-)
