Music servers and other computer based digital audio technologies.

RE: Who's about them EARS of yours?

My DSL downloads at 15 Mbps and uploads at about 0.8 mbps. This is sufficient to stream 48/16 FLAC from Czech radio without any dropouts. It is sufficient for downloading all digital formats that I can play, which is basically anything up to DSD128 at present (stereo only). These are the same copper twisted pairs that were installed when the condo development was built back in the mid 80's. I can walk less than a mile to the telco blockhouse where the DSL is terminated by a router which connects to the local fiber backbone. The damn fiber goes by within about 800 feet from my house.

The upload speed is atrocious for uploading hi-res music files. I need to upload music files to some servers that I manage. Presently this has to be done overnight and one server in my home office serves as a backup in case the main server goes down. That will be horrible service. At present it would take months to reupload all the music files to a server on a high bandwidth backbone. Fortunately, this hasn't been necessary because the hosting company has been very reliable.
