The Regen is said to reduce the effects of upstream devices, such as source computers and digital cables by removing noise that is generated in the DAC caused by imperfect USB waveforms. However, it is said that these differences are reduced, not eliminated. Regen units are powered USB hubs, so a number of them can be stacked up and the USB DAC should continue to work, at least in theory.
My question is whether or not putting two Regens in tandem further reduces these differences. If so, how much? Does the sound continue to improve with the second Regen? Is there still a noticeable difference between a $7.00 USB cable out of the computer vs. a $700 USB cable? Is there still a difference between playing FLAC files vs. WAV files? Do different USB ports on the computer still behave differently?
