RE: Why aren't you using optical cables?

In practice, if you have a clean system in a clean environment you may find that optical cables produce reduced sound quality. The likely cause is clock jitter generated by noise and limited bandwidth in the optical receiver. Also power and ground plane noise generated by the optical receiver. Both of these factors have been positively correlated with measurements of spurious signals on the analog output of a DAC. Whether you will notice these will depend on your systen, your hearing and your listening skills.

Back in the early 1990's I bought a two box Proceed CD player. It offered the option of coax or optical connection. Like you I thought that the optical would sound better. I tried both. The optical sounded worse. I mentioned it to the owner of the audio store and he said that he agreed.
