I think you are probably correct. DSD256 is not needed today. The sweet spot presently is DSD128, and arguably for direct DSD with no second conversion maybe even DSD64 on the Grimm AD1 converter.
The benefit of DSD256, if any, will be in studio production with multiple generations of conversions. (For a purist like me, I consider this to be a liability, not a benefit, at least for the type of music that I prefer.)
