Here's the thing. If you took many of these people who don't hear differences in DBT tests it could be that they don't listen carefully enough or haven't bothered to train themselves how to listen, since there are special techniques to "pass" multiple guess tests, which is what these are. Now I would wager that many of these people who do not hear differences are simply being lazy and/or willfully deaf. Put them in a situation where their life depended on hearing these differences, I'll bet some fraction of them would somehow find the ability to hear differences that were previously inaudible to them. Just saying...
