RE: Audioquest Ethernet cables, conclusion

"As long as the bits arrive properly, it shouldn't matter what's going on out there. That's usually not the case."

Agreed. "Should" is operative. Unfortunately the word wasn't "Shall" or "Must".

Some posters on this forum can not understand the concept that digital data streams are implemented as analog signals that include the information (bits) and noise and that the purpose of the digital receiver circuit is to separate the signal (bits) from the noise and retain just the signal in the digital logic and digital storage buffers. Of course not all this noise is filtered, but some of it definitely is and there is nothing in principle from using multiple stages of noise elimination to reduce the input noise. (Note that this doesn't guarantee that there is no noise on the final output, this is physically impossible and expensive to approach the physical limits. It does guarantee that there will be no residual effects of the input noise on the output.)

There may still be other coupling methods for computer noise to invade the analog signal chain which starts at the DAC master clock. If it enters the DAC via power wiring then the power wiring can be completely eliminated...

I suspect from some of the reports of inmates who claim that USB cables roll off highs, etc., that they are using computer and digital cable tweaks as tone controls. Once this is accepted, the conclusion will be that good isolating DACs aren't good, because they don't have this possibility. The end result is reduced market for a high end DAC that had excellent isolation. Were audiophiles more knowledgeable this situation wouldn't exist. I would never go into business marketing highly technical gear to users whose main quality is having lots of discretionary money.
