The Nuc kit is off the shelf and includes the box and board, plus external power supply. I ordered the RAM and SSD separately and installed them inside the box which took about 10 minutes. For the initial installation of the operating system I connected a spare USB keyboard and mouse and a spare VGA display, but now I manage the server over the network. The OS was a Ubuntu 64 bit image download which I loaded to a USB stick and plugged it into the front of the box for the OS installation.
