That is the best way for critical listening. It is a bit of a PITA, but it does provide a suitable reference. It also eliminates the temptation of using digital cables as tone controls, which is utter foolishness IMO.
I have my library in my computer. I can easily disable the Ethernet interface. I can also spin down my music library disks after loading play lists in a RAM disk. This is my normal way of listening to my library. The network is only used for backup purposes or (rare) streaming of lossless audio such as Czech Radio D-dur. My NAS is normally powered down.
I don't normally shut down my whole network and power it down, even for "critical listening". It's too much of a PITA. However, if I am doing audio tests to see about network effects then I will do this, and take even more extreme action such as powering off unneeded circuit breakers. This is nothing more than good experimental hygiene, removing as many known possible confounding variables.
(Even the most inconvenient of these rituals is trivial compared to what is needed to get good sound out of LPs.)
