It is not a theoretical problem, unless you are prepared to swear that these devices make playback quality immune from changes to the source of the stream and the network, including Ethernet cables.
Instead we continue to have reports of bits not being bits and just now reports that Ethernet cables affect sound quality. This is not surprising because equipment continues to use poor system architecture. There is no excuse for poor system architecture when it comes to a high end system.
