RE: "Data Loss"

Those $1500 USB cables are equally absurd.

N.B. I will stand corrected if I see some non-BS technical marketing literature or a research paper that explains how the cables in question were designed and the principles that enabled them to achieve their superiority. In the absence of this information I am forced to assume that someone ordered a bunch of cables from a supplier and listened to them, concluded that the best one could be sold at a huge markup and ordered up a customized jacket to support the "brand". And then, as a savvy businessmen-scammer, he hired a well regarded writer to write his marketing tripe. Sad.

The problem in my mind is that high quality audio has been a scam ever since Sony and Philips foisted off 44/16 PCM as "perfect sound forever". Once people started believing this there was no limit to what they could be fooled into believing and the scammers came out of the woodwork. Or more cynically, it was a decade earlier, when Dolby came up with his various compression schemes which traded off lower noise for less musicality, for example the "professional" Dolby A, which when it came into play ended the era of classic stereo recording. One has to wonder why 50 year old recordings usually sound better than new releases. Has there really been any progress in audio?
