"Data Loss"

"AQ claims that due to possible "data loss" at particular junctures, their Ethernet cable will make a difference in the LAST run, just like a power cord from the wall does, even if it is the last 6 feet of power distribution."

Data loss over wired Ethernet sounds like marketing BS. I have never had any problems with wired Ethernet connections. It seems unlikely that there will be data loss in wired Ethernet connections unless the cable is not up to the standards. This is especially true for short runs, compare to the spec'd limits (e.g. 100 meters). Cat 7 is spec'd to run 10 Gbps Ethernet. Only cat 6 is needed for 1 Gbps Ethernet and even cat 5 works fine at that speed for short runs. Most operating system Ethernet drivers count CRC errors and these will show if there are any problems with cabling. I have never seen a single CRC error on any wired Ethernet connection. The system is designed to run error free for 300 meters. Audio usage requires only 100 mbps Ethernet which runs fine over cat 5. Cat 7 is overkill, as it is designed to run at 10 Gbps, a speed that few people use except in data centers or Internet switch points.

Because there is a 32 bit CRC, any data loss will result in packet loss and this will result in audible dropouts and/or clicks. If you are curious you can test this effect with an old Ethernet cable that has a broken plastic snap on the connector, allowing you to wiggle it in and out while your system is operating.

There are reasons why these cables might affect sound quality having to do with the equipment near the DAC and the DAC itself and the propagation of noise. Not to be confused with "data loss".
